Southpaws ruled the day during the September edition of the Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes 2023 at the Central Lanes Bowling Center on Sunday, September 10, 2023. RJ Santos and Daniel Lee claimed victory to solidify their entry into the annual Grand Finals.
3rd seed Santos went on a striking spree during the match play rounds on his way to claiming his first title of the year. In round 1, he took apart the lanes for a 237-165 drubbing of 9th seed Von Cabral. Thereafter, he sent two-hander and 4th seed Evan Duenas packing after a 205-173 set. In the semi-final round against second seed Cesar Villanueva, he blew past another two-handed competitor 235-159. In the final month’s match-up, he led from the get-go to upend fellow southpaw Brian Manibusan with a 235-182 set.
5th seed Manibusan’s Road to the monthly final match was an ever-winding road. He out-pinned 10th seed Corey Granillo in the first round, then nipped 6th seed Maria Wood in the second round, before beating top seed Jeremiah Camacho in the semi-final round.
In the Prince of the Lanes, the final match was between two youth program bowlers. Top seed Daniel Lee and 4th seed Calvin Cabuhat. Lee earned his first Prince title with a seven-pin victory after erasing a 26-pin handicap deficit to etch his name into the year-end grand finals.
As the top seed, Lee earned a bye during the first two rounds before defeating 10th seed Nick Gutierrez in the semi-finals. Cabuhat competed through the four rounds of elimination edging 8th seed Virgil Toledo in round one with this handicap, then bowling past 9th seed Bill Roberto in round two. In the semi-final round, Cabuhat spared a crucial pin ten in the last stanza to edge second seed Jazia Macias and earn the right to face off against Lee.
The next Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes 2023 will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at 1:15 p.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
