Wednesday, November 1, 2023 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam
The Father Duenas Memorial School Friars, John F. Kennedy High School Islanders, and St. Paul Christian School Warriors took opening day wins to kick off the IIAAG High School Bowling season at the Central Lanes Bowling Center. Seven teams are competing in this year’s season including Guam Adventist Academy Angels, Guahan Academy Charter School Stars, Harvest Christian School Eagles, and St. John School Knights.
The defending champion Friars defeated the Stars with a first, second, third, and fifth-place finish led by Aron Hernandez, Kyle Lindsey, Mark Bersamin, and Evan Cepeda. Darius Jano-Edward led the Angels with a fourth-place finish in the meet to avoid a sweep.
In the tri-school meet, the Islanders knocked off the highly favored Eagles and the Stars by a seven-point margin. Islanders Micaiah Benton took top honors for the day followed closely by Eagle’s Parker Ashland by fourteen pins. Both teams jockeyed for valuable finishing points with the Islanders taking 3rd Stefan Azucena, 5th Jesse Rechulk, and 6th Ryusei Santos for their 15 points. The Eagles were one step behind landing in 4th Alex Shelden, 7th Paul Ray, and 9th Krasen Mendiola with 22 points. The top-ranked bowler for the Stars was Eythn Hernandez who finished in 8th place.
The Warriors picked up their season-opening win with a six-point victory over the Knights. The Knights Elijah Dewan took the top post in the match followed by Warriors Michael Pono, Kurt Macatangay, and Alexander Nerza.
The league continues on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center with the girls competition.
