On the Lanes, Friars three-peat with an exciting end-of-season victory

Thursday, December 24, 2023 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

The field was led by Eagle’s Alex Shelden who posted a two-game set of 340 pins with teammate Parker Ashland twenty pins adrift in second place.  With a 3-nil deficit, the Friars grabbed third to sixth place, led by Aron Hernandez.  Kyle Lindsey, Mark Bersamin, and Riel Brantley followed suit for their top four finishers to register an 18-point total.  Ye-Yeon Jin of the Eagles finished in seventh place which meant the Eagles needed one more bowler to take the 8th spot to tie the match with the Friars.  However, Xavier Calvo, who bowled the highest game amongst the Friars team, notched the 8th spot to secure the win, three pins ahead of Paul Ray for the three-peat Championship.

The Islanders tied the Eagles for second place overall in the team standings as they dominated the tri-school meet against the Warriors and Knights.  Ryusei Santos topped the meet with 337 pins as teammate Stefan Azucena finished in second place.  The Warriors Michael Pono finished one pin behind Azucena for third as the Islanders Jesse Rechulk and Micaiah Benton closed out the top four finishers for their team to finish with 12 points.  The Warriors finished with 28 points for the draw.

GAA Angels won their second match of the season similarly beating GACS Stars to the Islanders.  Nick Zuniga, Anthony Lee, Jacob Quinata, and Trevaine Stephen took 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th, while Dallas Cauthen slipped in 3rd place.

With the season coming to an end, the All-Island Finals will be hosted on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.  The event will consist of the top four bowlers from each school.  Bowlers who did not make the top four cut will be allowed to qualify for the finals on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center through a three-game qualifier.  From this event, the top four females and ten males will proceed to the All-Island Finals.
