San Nicolas, Cali triumph in March King and Prince

Ray San Nicolas, March 2024 Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes

It was all green at the end of the St. Patrick’s Day edition of the March Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes monthly tournament held at the Central Lanes Bowling Center as Ray San Nicolas and CJ Cali pinched their way to the titles.

The lucky charms were on deck during the monthly finals as Ray San Nicolas stormed through the pins and hammered strike after strike on his way to routing 9^th seed Ricky Duenas by 81 pins. San Nicolas used a six-bagger to lock up the match and claim his first title in a couple of years.

During the semifinal match top seed San Nicolas edged Matthew Cruz as he worked off a strike on the ninth frame to close out the match with a four-bagger for a 199-181 win after two bye rounds. Duenas on the other hand, took the scenic route as he beat 3^rd seed Corey Granillo 199-186, then dispatched 4^th seed Cisco Uncangco 193-182 before ousting 2^nd seed Noah Taimanglo 215-166 to advance to the monthly finals.

San Nicolas took pole position in the qualifying rounds held earlier in the day with a 211 average, 39 pins adrift was Taimanglo followed by Granillo, Uncangco, Daniel Lee, Sean Lee, Matthew Cruz, Aaron Elliott, Duenas, and Jay Leon Guerrero who rounded off the top ten and advanced to the elimination rounds.

As luck may have it, the prince’s finale pitted two newcomers to the event and to top it off, it was a sibling rivalry. In the end, the elder sibling took the throne as 8^th seed CJ Cali defeated top seed Evan Cali 196-160. The brothers set up the finale as they beat their counterparts convincingly in the semi-finals. Top seed Evan Cali beat out 10^th seed Arnold Hernandez and CJ toppled 2^nd seed Isaiah Morellano.

Evan Cali led the prince qualifying after the handicapping scores were affixed finishing ten pins ahead of 2^nd placer Isaiah Morellano who averaged 203 pins per game. Henry Abasta finished in 3^rd followed by Arlene Reyes, Kevin Fejeran, Francis Prado, Aron Hernandez, CJ Cali, Ina Lee, and Arnold Hernandez as the top ten qualified for the elimination rounds.

The next Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1:15 p.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
