The IIAAG Middle School Bowling League kicked off its inaugural season with a parade of participating schools at the Central Lanes Bowling Center. The ceremony featured Charlie “MamaChar” Catbagan as the Master of Ceremony. Close to fifty bowlers graced the lanes before the official matches began.
Joey Miranda III, Guam Bowling Secretary-General and Oceania Bowling Federation President expressed his appreciation, stating “The Guam Bowling Congress is very grateful to the IIAAG for providing us this avenue to showcase our sport with the middle school athletes. With the inclusion of bowling in middle school, we can work with our future athletes at a younger age. This bodes very well for the future of bowling on the island as we work towards preparing teams for upcoming international events.” He also thanked Jay Leon Guerrero for coordinating the program as well as all the athletes, coaches, and administrators for making this inaugural season opener a success.
The enthusiastic students representing Guam Academy Charter School, SIFA Learning Academy Charter School, St. Anthony Catholic School, and St. John’s School, competed over two games to determine the winning teams for the first of four weeks event.
SIFA Learning Academy Charter School defeated St. Anthony School in the Boys’ division 17-23 led by Billy Rey Donor with the high honor score of the day. St. Anthony’s Tydus Baker and Eyan Duenas took 2nd and 3rd post, but Stingray’s Ayden Buentipo, Ry Cevera, and Zeriah Blas took 4th, 5th, and 7th respectively for the win as Raider’s Bryaden Blas took 6th with Lyo Sawada in 12th.
The Lady Raiders dropped the Stingrays in the girl’s division 14-22. Stingray’s Aubreale Charfauros took pole position; however, the Raiders filled the next four positions with Summer Pinaula, Ava Quinata, Isabella Glasim, and Gabriella Edwards for the win.
Guahan Academy Charter school boys beat St. John’s School as the later fielded an incomplete lineup. Starfish’s Leonides Toves topped the meet followed by Knights Kavika Angoco and Liam Chan.
The Starfish also controlled the meet in the girl’s division topping the Knights 14.5-22. The Starfish’s Rionca Lizama and Anieya Cruz finished one-two while Knight’s Olivia Lee ended the match in third. The Starfish’s Jeriah Pangelinan and Knights Aeris Park tied for fourth while Stefani Megino landed the 6th slot. Anya Cruz of the Starfish finished 7th to close out the match.
The middle school competition continues on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
