There’s always a first for everything. In the case of this month’s winner, he earned his maiden championship during the April 2024 edition of the Budweiser King of the Lanes tournament held at the Central Lanes Bowling Center. 4th seed Erwin Aguilar fought through the elimination round as he edged Evan Duenas by a stick in round 1, 176-175. Thereafter, he managed to upset the top three seeds of the tournament on his way to the King title.
Aguilar upended 3rd seed Jay Leon Guerrero in the quarter-final round 194-169. He went on to knock out 2nd seed Noah Taimanglo in the semifinals with a tough 218-210 match; and then toppled the tournament top seed Ray San Nicolas handily, 203-151 to secure the maiden title and a slot in the year-end grand finale. San Nicolas, who settled for the runner-up post, defeated 6th seed Cisco Uncangco in the other semifinal round, 222-178, to set up the final match.
San Nicolas led the field in the 40’ pattern that baffled all competitors throughout the day. Emerging from the low scoring outing where Taimanglo, Leon Guerrero, Aguilar, Mike Sanchez, Uncangco, Matthew Cruz, Evan Duenas, Daniel Lee, and Ricky Duenas, who made the cut with a 159 average.

New comer Izaiah Jesus couldn’t believe the final result of the Prince tilt as the first time competitor claimed the April title by defeating 5th seed Gomes Martinez championship match. Jesus edged 9th seed Dylan Taimanglo using his handicap advantage in the semi-final bracket, while Martinez took the battle of the southpaws in the other semi-final match beating top seed Henry Abasta by seven sticks.
The top ten in the qualifying field included Abasta, Jesus, Arlene Reyes, Isaiah Morellano, Martinez, Shane San Nicolas, Elijah Duenas, Sabrina Fletcher, Taimanglo, and Jerome Rivera.
The next Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 1:15 p.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
