Lee, Baker triumph to claim first King and Prince titles

August 2024 Budweiser King of the Lanes Champion Daniel Lee

The August edition of the Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes at Central Lanes Bowling Center saw a high-scoring competition. Daniel Lee secured his first Budweiser King of the Lanes title by defeating his brother, top seed Sean Lee, in the finals. Sean Lee had earlier eliminated fifth seed Jeremiah Camacho with a score of 264 to 184, while Daniel Lee clinched his spot by striking out in the 10th frame against fourth seed Matthew Cruz, winning 245 to 230. In the final match, Daniel capitalized on Sean’s struggles, winning by a margin of 100 pins to advance to the grand finale in December.

Jeremiah Camacho delivered consecutive 250 games, defeating Juan Blas 256 to 204 in the quarterfinals and tenth seed Steven Esplana 250 to 172 in the first elimination round. Fourth seed Matt Cruz narrowly beat ninth seed Ricky Duenas 178 to 160 and eighth seed Noah Taimanglo 184 to 179.

Sean Lee led the qualifying rounds with an average of 239 pins per game, totaling 958 pins over four games (234, 238, 247, and 239). Daniel Lee followed closely with a 233 average, including a high game of 279. Ray San Nicolas finished third with 916 pins, just two pins ahead of Matt Cruz. Jeremiah Camacho, Juan Blas, Corey Granillo, Noah Taimanglo, Ricky Duenas, and Steven Esplana also qualified for the top ten elimination round.

In the Prince of the Lanes division, Tydus Baker claimed his first title of the year by defeating top seed AJ Banayat 192 to 144, securing his spot in the grand finals in December. Baker maintained his scoring pace on lanes 13 and 14, while Banayat struggled despite leading the qualifying round. Banayat had edged out sixth seed Isaiah Macias in the semifinals, while Baker defeated second seed Eyan Duenas 204 to 168. Macias had bowled a 257 in the quarterfinals to beat fifth seed and defending champion Riel Brantley, and Baker ousted ninth seed Caleb Santos in the quarterfinals.

AJ Banayat led the Prince division qualifiers with a total of 857 pins, averaging 214 on the long pattern. He was joined in the top ten elimination rounds by Eyan Duenas, Kevin Fejeran, Baker, Brantley, Macias, Naiyah Taimanglo, Chris Santos, Kaleb Santos, and Ina Lee.

The next Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes event will occur on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Central Lanes Bowling Center at 1:15 PM.
