Over four intense days, 40 members of the Guam bowling community attended a coaching seminar hosted by U22 Bowling Consultancy, Storm Bowling Products, Pin Point Guam, and Central Lanes from October 9 to 12, 2024.
The course, led by Mervyn Foo, the Technical Director of U22 Coaching Consultancy, drew on his extensive experience with the Singapore Bowling Federation and the U22 program to enlighten participants. His teachings on both traditional and two-handed methodologies aim to enhance the bowling skills on the island.
At the end of the seminar, certificates were awarded to coaches who completed the course and passed the examination. This initiative, spearheaded by Guam Bowling in collaboration with Storm Products Inc. Vice President Robert Dong, seeks to promote the sport locally. Guam Bowling aims to establish training mechanisms to ensure that current and future athletes receive the necessary coaching to succeed both locally and internationally. With the upcoming Guam Bowling High School League and middle school league, it’s crucial to equip student athletes with the tools to improve their skills and advance their game.
By certifying coaches, Guam Bowling hopes to increase participation in the sport and elevate the level of competitive bowling on the island. The organization aspires to continue its progress with industry partners, building on the current success of our youth bowlers in the U22 Hong Kong event. The ultimate goal is to provide our athletes with a safe environment conducive to learning the Game and provide them with life experiences. In addition, we hope to return to the world podium, as seen in the 1996 World Youth Championships and the 2003 World Championships.
