Morellano tops Senior field for October title

Sunday, October 13, 2024 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

Rueben Morellano (R) receives his prize from PinPoint Guam’s Jimmy PInaula.

Ruben Morellano secured his first career title in the Pin Point Guam Senior Bowling Challenge. He was declared the October monthly winner after a tight victory over Manny Tagle, with a score of 238-230, courtesy of his calculated pins over average and handicapping.

Morellano’s path to victory included wins over 2nd seed Gina San Nicolas which went into a tie breaker in the semi-final match, and against Jesse Eyoel and Jess Muya in the quarterfinals. In the first round, he bested Yvonne Acda, Bill Taimanglo, and Mike Duenas to advance to the quarterfinals.

On the other hand, Tagle qualified as the top seed. He edged Jess Meno in the extra session to reach the month finals. Meno, in turn, overcame Joh Abad and Alex Santiago in the quarterfinals to join the final four. In the opening round, Meno posted the second-highest total behind John Abad, beating Mike Sanchez, Edgar Nalundasan, and Jim Pinaula to advance to the quarterfinals.

Pin Point Guam October Top 4 (L-R): Champion Ruben Morellano, 2nd place Manny Tagle, 3rd place Gina San Nicolas, and 4th place Jess Meno.

Jess Muya earned the last man standing title but was unable to convert a nine-count shot, ending his chance at the prize.

As the year draws to a close, seniors will have two more months to qualify for the year-end grand finals and compete for the title of Senior Bowler of the Year.
