Cougars, Friars dominate Group A to finish undefeated

The AOLG Cougars and FDMS Friars dominated the final day of the regular season by securing the top three spots in their respective divisions.

In the girls’ group, Aha’ani Sablan, Summer Pinaula, and Frencin Cabuhat led the Cougars to a 5-0 record, heading into the All-Island Competition. The Cougars defeated the Lady Sharks 11-28, with Nichole Herrera finishing fourth for the Sharks and Taryn Duenas securing fifth place for the Cougars. This gave the Sharks their first season loss, dropping them to 4-1.

The Lady Dolphins ended their season on a high note with a 3-2 record, defeating the Lady Warriors 13-26. Lynneia Quitugua led the Dolphins, while Hikaru Takano of the Lady Warriors finished second. Sumahi Cruz, Cyrish Abad, and Amira Madrelino completed the match for the Dolphins in third to fifth places, respectively.

The Lady Starfish achieved their first win of the season with a 13-26 victory over the Lady Geckos. Ella-Rose Cruz led the way, with Janese Abasta of the Geckos finishing second. Kaila Aloka, Isabella McKinnon, and Juane Cruz secured third to fifth positions to close the regular season.

The Friars dominated Group A, finishing the day with a top-four sweep led by Riel Brantley, Jaden Milan, Raoul Tomada, and Raf De Guzman. Brantley bowled the highest set of the day with a 418 series, including a 228 game, helping secure their undefeated record with a 10-42 victory over the Sharks. Ethan Domingo led the Sharks, finishing in fifth place.

The Dolphins ended the season with a 4-1 record by defeating the Warriors 15-22. Reeve Chamberlain posted the highest set for the Dolphins, with teammates Brandon Manibusan and Daeton Taumomoa finishing second and third, respectively. Despite strong performances from Kurt Macatangay, Michael Pono, Kelven Chen, Rodante Gacusan, and Hanwool Kim, the Warriors couldn’t clinch the win. Roscoe Zamora’s ninth-place finish secured the Dolphins’ victory.

The Geckos also recorded a 4-1 season by sweeping the Starfish 10-39. Kaleb Santos led the Geckos, supported by Micaiah Benton, Geovanni Kintoki, and Ronan Aromin.

The top four bowlers from each school will advance to the All-Island Finals Competition. The boys’ finals will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 4:15 p.m., while the girls’ finals will be on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 4:15 p.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
