Sablan strikes All Island Bowling Gold, Cougars dominate

In an all-freshman showdown at the Guam Bowling High School League All-Island Championship, Aha’ani Sablan claimed victory by outdueling teammate Summer Pinaula in the step-ladder match. Sablan secured the top seed after a three-game set, finishing 18 pins ahead of HCA Eagle’s Paulina Yoon, while Pinaula took third place. Cougars’ senior Frencin Cabuhat concluded her high school bowling career in fourth place, and freshman Charlie Cabarles of the JFK Islanders rounded out the top five.

Sablan got off to a quick start against Pinaula and maintained her lead throughout, cruising to victory. In the semi-final step-ladder match, Pinaula narrowly defeated Yoon in a nail-biting finish. In an all-southpaw match, Pinaula spared a pin seven, while Yoon opened on a critical shot, allowing Pinaula to edge past Yoon by a single pin.

The top ten also featured Denise Garcia of the Eagles, Janese Abasta of the Geckos, Juliana Lagman of the Islanders, Knessa Davis of the Knights, and Atissa Rabon of the Cougars.

The Cougars dominated the field, claiming the top team position with 18 points, led by Sablan, Pinaula, Cabuhat, and Rabon. The Eagles narrowly beat the Knights for second place by just one point, 63-64. The Eagles’ team included Yoon, Garcia, Isabella Galsim, and Kate Pedrajas, while the Knights were represented by Davis, Ana-Lourdes Cook, Ava Ouhadi, and Olivia Lee.

Medals were awarded to the top ten bowlers, with the champion receiving the All-Island Championship trophy. The top three teams also received trophies.
