In a thrilling display of skill and experience, Ricky Duenas proved that age is merely a number as he secured his first title of the year. Demonstrating his prowess, Duenas narrowly edged out 6th seed John Raymundo in the first round, defeating him by a single pin. He then ousted 10th seed Sean Lee in the second round, again by a narrow margin. However, it was his performance against top seed Jeremiah Camacho that truly stood out. With Camacho twice his senior, Duenas delivered an impressive 233 to 203 victory. In the final match, Duenas clinched the title with a turkey in the final frames, defeating 2nd seed Steve Esplana with a score of 201-166.
Camacho led the field with a total of 827 pins over four games, finishing 41 pins ahead of Esplana and being the only competitor to average 200 on the medium lane pattern. Maria Wood secured third place, followed by Cisco Uncangco, Noah Taimanglo, John Raymundo, Duenas, Corey Granillo, Dawyne Taimanglo, and Sean Lee, who rounded out the top ten to qualify for the elimination rounds.
In the Prince division, 4th seed Jerome Rivera emerged victorious, claiming the first title of his budding bowling career. Rivera, who qualified in fourth position, dominated the elimination rounds. In the first round, he defeated 8th seed Henry Abasta with a score of 224-167, and then moved past 3rd seed Chris Santos 174-148. In the semi-finals, Rivera overcame 2nd seed Jethro Lanuza 156-135, and in the final match, he nearly doubled the score of top seed and defending monthly champion Kevin Fejeran, winning 232-124. Fejeran, who had qualified as the top seed, advanced to the finals by defeating 6th seed Derek Taimanglo 200-176.
Fejeran topped the qualifying field with a total of 828 pins, with Lanuza trailing by seven pins. Chris Santos finished third, followed by Rivera, Shannon Bukikosa-Esplana, Derek Taimanglo, Raphael DeGuzman, Henry Abasta, Shane San Nicolas, and Jayden Flores, who all qualified for the elimination rounds.
The next Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes tournament is scheduled for Sunday, March 23, 2025.
