ISA Bowling league opens with Islanders topping the girls ranking

Islanders Charlie Cabarles tops week 1

The pins are flying and the energy is electric as the 2025 ISA High School Bowling League launched in spectacular fashion! Seven spirited schools—George Washington Geckos, JFK Islanders, Okkodo Bulldogs, Simon Sanchez Sharks, Southern Dolphins, Tiyan Titas, and B&T Academy Bulls—lit up Central Lanes with a dazzling parade of school colors, cheers, and pride during the opening ceremony.

The event began with the stirring sounds of the anthems, followed by heartfelt oaths of sportsmanship from athletes, coaches, and officials. Guam Bowling President Joey Miranda III delivered a warm welcome, applauding the dedication of the athletes and the unwavering support of families and fans who packed the venue with island pride. Dr. Kaneshiro’s Orthodontics Clinic was also on hand to provide welcome gift bags to all participants.

Girls Singles: Charlie Cabarles Strikes Gold for the Islanders!

Bulldog’s Anne Nicole Leonardo finishes in 3rd place.

The competition got rolling with the Girls Singles event, and it was JFK’s Charlie Cabarles who stole the spotlight! With a sizzling high game of 191 and a two-game total of 348 pins, Cabarles set the tone for the Islanders’ dominant performance.

Southern’s Cyrish Abad kept the pressure on, finishing 77 pins behind, while Okkodo’s Anne Nicole Leonardo rounded out the top three with poise and precision.

Team Standings: Islanders Take Command!

The Islanders surged to the top of the leaderboard with 22 points, thanks to strong finishes by Teanlay Mesa (5th), Anna Rice (6th), and Isabella Santos (10th). The Sharks snapped up second place with 37 points, just edging out the Dolphins at 44.  The Sharks were led by Althea Pateno in 4th place, Lesli Valencia in 8th, Nichole Herrera in 11th and Aubrey Danila in 18th.  The Dolphins were paced by Abad followed by Lynneia Quitugua in 7th, Emriel Salanatin in 14th and Gabrielle Perez in 21st.

The excitement continues this Thursday, September 18, with the Boys Singles event. Expect fierce competition, high scores, and plenty of school spirit as the boys take to the lanes!
