Top seed Jim Pinaula took advantage of rare miscues by second seed multi-winner Manny Tagle to return to being champion after so many attempts and pummeled him 265-139 with handicap to claim the Pin Point Senior Monthly Challenge for November.
Gina San Nicolas started things off by winning the Last Man Standing event. She attempted to take ten percent of the pot by drawing the dreaded strike ball option, but failed, leaving the $2700 plus prize intact till next month.

The opening elimination brackets started shortly afterwards, with 5th seed Rene Cariaso and 7th seed Jesse Eyoel out-gunning fellow A bracket competitors Yvonne Acda (16th), Ruben Morellano (14th), Leody Ersando (12th), and Carlos Ongpauco (9th). The B bracket results had 11th seed Tony Sobrevilla and 10th seed Dave Cruz slipping past Jess Meno (15th), Liz Langas (13th), Gina San Nicolas (8th), and Alex Santiago (6th).
The quarter finals were tough as 3rd seed Nixon Caasi’s 217 score was enough to end Eyoel’s and Cariaso’s title hopes in the A bracket. David Cruz’s 218 count however, was enough to upset 4th seed Mike Duenas and end Sobrevilla’s run for the championship in the B bracket.
The semifinals were nailbiters as second seed Tagle toppled Caasi 201-196 and 215-203 in the race to two wins format in the A bracket. Pinaula likewise continued by downing Cruz two wins of 189-183 and 194-180 scores to advance to the final round.

The championship had both Pinaula and Tagle best friends and teammates on the Friday night senior league even after the first couple of frames, but the bowling gods of misfortune decided to rain on Tagle who opened a couple of frames in the latter part of the game. That plus several strikes by Pinaula resulted in his first title in nearly a decade. It was a satisfying win for the veteran Pinaula who had to overcome several injuries in the last few years to return to the winner’s circle.

The December qualifiers are currently ongoing throughout the various leagues till around the last week of this month. Interested senior bowlers aged 50 and over can check with the bowling counter or the Pin Point Pro Shop at Central Lanes for more information on the qualifying rules and tournament details.
