High Drama at the Lanes: IIAAG High School Bowling Singles Championship Delivers Thrills

Tuesday, December 9, 2025 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

IIAAG 2025 HS Bowling League Championships (L-R): Summery Pinaula (AOLG) and Jaden Milan (FDMS)

With the season on the line, the IIAAG High School Bowling season reached its electrifying conclusion at the All Island Singles Championship, held at the Central Lanes Bowling Center. The atmosphere was charged as the island’s top 24 boys and girls battled across three grueling games, each strike and spare carrying the weight of a season. Only the top three in each division would advance to the medal step‑ladder finals — and the drama did not disappoint.

Southpaw Jaden Milan, a sophomore sensation, set the tone with a blistering 205 average, leading a field dominated by the Friars. Milan’s steady set of 206, 214, and 197 kept him ahead of senior Ezekiel Gatan, who trailed by 19 pins after posting 184, 209, and 203. Sophomore Ayden Buentipo stormed into contention with a fiery 236 that vaulted him into the medal rounds, just four pins shy of Gatan.

Juniors Riel and Jerome Aguon both got off to a strong start with Aguon leading the pack after game one bowling a 219 game.  Brantley finished fourth with a 549 set while Aguon ended the day in fifth.

The Friars’ depth was on full display, with medal‑worthy performances from Kandon Duenas (532), John Fejeran (515), Dominic Cruz (512), Aiden Kim (500), and freshman Raitano West (493), rounding out a formidable Top 10.

The semifinal clash between Gatan and Buentipo was a nail‑biter. Gatan built a 15‑pin cushion after Buentipo faltered on a spare, but the sophomore roared back with a late double that forced Gatan into a pressure‑packed tenth frame. Calm under fire, Gatan spared a stubborn seven pin and then delivered a strike in the fill frame to edge Buentipo, 192–188.

The final was nothing short of cinematic. Milan opened with a four‑bagger, surging to a 30‑pin lead, but a missed seven pin and a costly split cracked the door open. Gatan seized the moment with a double, flipping the scoreboard to his favor by two pins with just two frames left. Both bowlers struck in the foundation frame, setting up a nerve‑racking finish.

Gatan’s tenth‑frame shot left a pin four after coming up high on the head pin, ending his run at 208. Milan, needing perfection, found fortune with a Brooklyn strike and then unleashed another four‑bagger to close with 226 — sealing the IIAAG Boys Singles Championship in dramatic fashion.

The girls’ field was led by Cougars’ Aha’ani Sablan, who dominated qualifying with a 540 set and a high game of 214. Eagles’ Charmain Tyquiengco followed 60 pins back, while Cougar Summer Pinaula rounded out the top three. The Cougars stamped their authority, filling much of the Top 10 with Alexia Delfin, Riona Brantly, Khloe Mindo, Maia Palomo, and Rylee Fajardo, while Knights’ Kristin Capati and Eagles’ duo Rebecca Xu and Kate Pedrajas completed the medalists.

Third seed Pinaula lit up the lanes with her best game of the day, defeating Tyquiengco 184–133 to earn her shot at Sablan in the finals.

Sablan opened strong with a strike, but Pinaula answered with grit. A split in the third frame gave Pinaula the opening she needed, and she seized it — sparing, then stringing together a turkey to build a commanding 21‑pin lead. With the match slipping away, Sablan’s ninth‑frame open sealed her fate. Pinaula, steady and fearless, closed the door to capture the IIAAG Girls Singles Championship, completing a Cinderella run that left the crowd roaring.

The excitement continues as IIAAG Championship Week rolls on with the Team Baker’s Finals on Thursday, November 12, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Central Lanes Bowling Center. Fans can expect more drama, more strikes, and more unforgettable moments as the season crowns its team champions.
