Tagle wins PPG Senior Grand Finals Champion

Sunday, December 28, 2025 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

The top two winners of the Pin Point Senior Monthly Challenge (SMC) tournament stood toe to toe in the championship match of the 2025 Pin Point SMC Senior Grand Finals. At the end of this two-day tournament that started with a field of 32 finalists, top seed Manny Tagle edged out hard-hitting fourth seed Zaldy Ponce to become the Senior Grand Finals Champion for 2025.

Sixteen players advanced to the second day matches of which half advances after the first game eliminations to face the top eight finalists who drew a bye for the first day. The four-group competition format determined the match play contestants with four players from the sixteen survivors of the first day going against finalists five through eight for the next round. The final four from each bracket was Tagle (C), Ponce (A), Mike Duenas (D), and Sheila Bangs (B).

Then the real drama began as Ponce had to beat third seed Sheila Bangs two straight matches 234-117 and 249-219 with handicap to advance to the title match. Tagle fared better defeating second seed Mike Duenas 233-181 to move to the final match.

The title game was a see saw battle as it was previously during the year between the two winningest monthly winners of the SMC. Again, it was the contestant who made good on the frames when it counted and to maintain focus to minimize mistakes that would get them the title. This was where Tagle showed his tournament experience by scoring when he needed it in the latter frames while taking advantage of Ponce’s miscues to claim the championship.

But all is not lost for the entire field as Pin Point awarded the final 24 a cash award and a bowling ball priced at a level dependent on when the finalist finished. It made the efforts of everyone involved to recover some of their tournament involvement worthwhile.

The 2026 season for the Pin Point Senior Monthly Challenge has updated rules for competition to keep things simpler but still challenging.
