Cougars, Friars crowned All Island Bowling Team Champs

Monday, January 19, 2026 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

The atmosphere inside Central Lanes Bowling Center was electric on Martin Luther King Jr. Day as the island’s top high school bowlers delivered a dramatic showcase of skill, grit, and heart at the 2025 All Island Bowling Team Championships, presented by Wendy’s and Cold Stone Creamery. When the final pins fell, it was the AOLG Cougars and FDMS Friars who rose above a field packed with talent, upsets, and unforgettable moments.

In a day defined by intensity and unpredictability, none of the reigning league champions survived the semifinal round. Early on, the Friars squad of Dominic Cruz, Ezekiel Gatan, Aiden Kim, and Jaden Milan surged into the lead with commanding games of 236 and 214, flipping a narrow deficit into a dominant 110‑pin advantage over the Islanders’ team of Zayne Ayangco, Christof Pineda, Hajin Lee, and Leland DeVera.

But the semifinals told a different story.

The top‑seeded Friars were stunned by their younger teammates, who unleashed a clutch string of strikes to steal the match by just three pins. Anchor Tydus Baker sealed the victory with a full strikeout in the 10th frame, moments after the opposing anchor’s 6‑9 leave opened the door.

On the adjacent lane, the Eagles’ team of Don Cabral, Jihoo Cha, Austin Kim, and Logan Perez capitalized on the Islanders’ struggles to punch their ticket to the finals.

The championship round belonged entirely to the Friars. The quartet of Baker, Ayden Buentipo, John Fejeran, and Raitano West delivered a commanding performance, overpowering the Eagles with a decisive 178–116 victory in the Team Bakers final to claim the 2025 boys title.

The girls division delivered equal drama and excitement. The Eagles soared through qualifying, with Rebecca Xu, Charmain Tyquiengco, Denise Garcia, and Kate Pedrajas securing pole position by more than 120 pins. The Islanders’ team of Anna Rice, Charlie Cabarles, Isabella Santos, and Teanlay Mesa edged the Cougars by just eight pins to take second.

But the Cougars were far from finished.

Ranked third entering eliminations, the AOLG squad of Maia Palomo, Alexia Delfin, Summer Pinaula, and Aha’ani Sablan ignited when it mattered most. They dispatched the Sharks 159–119, then survived a nail‑biting semifinal against the Islanders, advancing by a single pin after a 10th‑frame pin‑10 leave from the opposing anchor.

The Eagles edged the Dolphins in their own dramatic semifinal, setting the stage for a high‑stakes final.

In the championship match, the Cougars delivered their strongest performance of the day, dethroning the ISA champions with a decisive 145–106 victory to claim the girls title.
