Langas Upsets Pinaula for Senior Bowling Crown

Sunday, February 21, 2026 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

Pin Point Guam February Senior Challenge Champion Liz Langas

On any given day, it can happen, and it becomes a most memorable day. That day arrived when 9th seed Liz Langas stunned top seed Jim Pinaula 212-184 with handicap to take the February Senior Monthly Challenge championship.

Gina San Nicolas started the event by winning the Last Man Standing competition. However, she went for the higher percentage and failed in the attempt. This only raised the pot to an even higher amount for March.

The elimination bracket rounds followed with Langas beginning her title run with 7th seed Leody Ersando advancing over 16th seed Nixon Caasi, 14th seed Gina San Nicolas, 12th seed Rick Torres, and 5th seed Sheila Bangs in the A bracket. The B bracket ended its round with 15th seed Chief
Quitugua and 11th seed John Abad over 13th seed John Platz, 10th Joe Murphy, 8th seed Rene Cariaso, and 6th seed Mike Duenas.

Langas then proceeded to take out 3rd seed Edgar Nalundasan and Ersando to get to the semi-final round. Quitugua stepped into the other semi-final position by upsetting 4th seed Dave Cruz and 11th seed John Abad. Then came a tough two straight wins by Langas who upset 2nd seed Zaldy Ponce to get to the championship match. Top seed Pinaula advanced by stopping Quitugua’s title run to meet Langas.

Both competitors were even in handicap, but Langas had to deal with a hot running Pinaula and fatigue as she proceeded to trust her strength and a little luck to go for it all for the coveted championship that has eluded her for many months. Well Lady luck decided to favor the lady this time as both bowlers traded the lead over the first six frames until Pinaula ran into some misfortune by two splits over the last three frames to Langas’ marks in her final two frames to be the first female champion in quite some time.

Current qualification rounds are underway this month for the March Senior Monthly Challenge and the Last Man Standing Competition. New qualifying rules have made it a much fairer platform for senior bowlers of all skill levels as this month’s results have shown. For more information
