The changing of the guard occurred during the hosting of the monthly Guam Youth Bowler tournament as Annastashia Leon Guerrero became the first female bowler in over 12 years to win a youth bowling monthly title. In an event where the field’s age group consist of bowlers 21 years and below competing in one division, the top three finishers included a pair of 11-year-old in Leon Guerrero and Naiyah Taimanglo along with 10-year-old Jaymason Doyle.
4th seed Taimanglo used her handicap advantage to drop 3rd seed Darien Borja in an exciting first round match with a score of 153+63 to 172+24. However, 2nd seed Leon Guerrero stopped Taimanglo’s march to the finals beating out the lower seed 141-126.
In a close and exhilarating finale, 2nd seed Leon Guerrero took advantage of a missed spare by Doyle in the last frame as she struck and spared to edge the top seed by three pins and be crowned the champion of the month of September.
Doyle led all competitors in the four game qualifier held earlier in the day with a 797 total including 168 pins of handicap followed by Leon Guerrero, Borja, Taimanglo, Xander Borja, Nikko Gutierrez, Cesar Villanueva, Jared Petrus, Sebastian Loyola and Noah Taimanglo rounded off the top ten.
The next Guam Youth Bowler of the month will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
