The first major bowling tournament on island since the COVID-19 pandemic is all set for the final stage. Qualifying rounds were held from January 26 to 31 at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
RJ Santos emerged as the top qualifier after posting a six game set of 1391. Four pins adrift is Cesar Villanueva followed by Aaron Elliott, Darien Borja, Mark Manibusan, Charlie Catbagan, Philip Lopez, Justin Mendiola, Jeremiah Camacho and Brian Manibusan round off the top ten.
The event includes a handicapping format determined by the competitors league average. Bowlers must check in no later than 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2021 as the tournament is slated to begin at 12:00 noon. The top 24 bowlers from the qualifying rounds will advance to the championship round where each bowlers will compete over eight games. The top five bowlers, including handicap, will advance to the step ladder finale. The first round will consist of the 3rd, 4th and 5th place keglers competing in a one-game elimination format. The winner advances to round two against the second seed. The winner of round 2 will play against the top seeded bowlers in a must beat twice format.
The champion receives the top purse of $1,000.00. 2nd place will be awarded $500.00, 3rd place is $250.00. 4th place is a Storm IQ Tour Nano Pearl Bowling Ball while fifth place is $150.00. A Storm Fast Pitch Bowling Ball will be raffled during the event courtesy of Storm Bowling Products and Pin Point Guam.
