Manibusan bowls perfect game in route to September King title, Bangs tops Prince field

Sunday, September 18, 2022 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

Brian Manibusan King of the Lanes September 2022 Champion bowled the first 300 perfect game during the monthly competition.

Brian Manibusan rolled twelve pocket strikes in a row during the Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes as he bowled the first 300 game of the year during competition.  Manibusan opened the elimination round in sixth position as his first-round opponent could only enjoy the mastery displayed by the southpaw.  He continued his striking prowess during the second round eliminating 10th seed Gregory Borja 236-190.  In the semi-final round, Manibusan toppled top seed Aaron Elliott to advance to the monthly finals against 4th seed RJ Santos who bumped off 2nd seed Ricky Duenas on the flip side of the bracket in a strike fest 259-237.

The finals match pitted the top two southpaws.  Manibusan took advantage of a missed opening frame by Santos as he strung a turkey for a 22-pin lead.  Santos came firing back with a turkey of his own, aided with a couple of splits by Manibusan, he took a one stick lead after six frames.  Both bowlers doubled in the ensuing frames as Santos held on to the single pin lead after eight frames.  A bad shot on the ninth frame by Santos opened the door for Manibusan who struck on the ninth and tenth frame to secure his second title of the year with a 219 to 186 victory.

Elliott and Duenas led the field as they finished with a tie total of 802 pins on the short oil pattern that caused havoc for all bowlers throughout the day.  Ray San Nicolas was nine pins adrift in third followed by Santos, Jay Leon Guerrero, Manibusan, Maria Wood, Mike Gadia, Evan Duenas, and Gregory Borja who qualified for the top ten and a spot during the elimination rounds.

Sheila Bangs, Budweiser Princess of the Lanes for the month of September 2022.

Sheila Bangs earned her first Princess title of the year after finishing in the runner up position during her previous attempts by defeating 4th seed Arlene Reyes 190-166.  Bangs beat top seed Gomes Martinez in the semi-final round, Lisa Duenas in the quarterfinals and 10th seed Enrique Corcino in the first elimination round.  Reyes edged second seed Miyuki Kim in the semi-final, 9th seed Nick Gutierrez in the quarters and 8th seed Corey Granillo in the first round.

Martinez and Kim tied for top honors in the prince qualifier held earlier in the day followed by Rudy Palaganas, Arlene Reyes, Sheila Bangs, Lisa Duenas, Ina Lee, Granillo, Gutierrez and Corcino.

The next Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
