Sunday, January 29, 2023 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

The first senior bowling tournament since the pandemic hit almost two years ago was reinvigorated through the hosting and sponsorship of PinPoint Guam. The Pins Over Average system received over 60 entries during the initial month of the year-long battle to determine the Senior Bowler of the Year.

Bowlers competed against each other as they not only had to deal with trying to beat their average, but other bonus points including age and gender. The top sixteen bowlers during the month-long qualifier held during the Friday Night Senior League battled for the monthly title. Bowlers were slotted according to their seeds. The group was led by top seed Manny Tagle followed by Norbie De Silva, Mary Pangelinan, Frank San Augstin, Gomes Martinez, Tony Sobrevilla, Rey Brigino, Joe Cepeda, Joe Murphy, Rene Cariaso, Edgar Nalundasan, Bill Roberto, Nick Gutierrez, Mike Sanchez, Arlene Reyes, and Sheila Bangs.
In the first of four elimination rounds, seeds 5 to 16 bowled one game with the winners from each pair, Sobrevilla, Sanchez, Murphy, and Roberto; advancing to Round 2. Round 1 winners were paired against the top 4 qualifiers in a first to 2 wins format. 13th seed Roberto ousted top seed Tagle 2-0, 15th seed Sanchez upended 2nd seed De Silva 2-0, 10th seed Murphy blanked 3rd seed Pangelinan 2-0, as 4th seed San Agustin avoided a total elimination of the top four bowlers edging Sobrevilla 2-1 on a sudden death tie breaker.

The semi-final match pitted 4th seed San Agustin against Roberto where the higher seed advanced with a 13 point favor. He was joined by 15th seed Sanchez who eliminated 10th seed Murphy by nine sticks.
Mike Sanchez held his ground against Frank San Agustin during the championship match bowling nine pins over average as the latter struggled to beat his average falling 27 pins adrift. Sanchez etches his name in the year-end grand finals as the rest of the field vie for the opportunity to qualify for the prestigious event.
A last man standing shootout was also hosted prior to the start of the monthly championship where Sobrevilla claimed top honors.
