Preface
The V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will be held for the first time in the “Pearl of Central Asia” in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in 2017. This multi games event will be participated by 64 countries from Asia and Oceania competing in 21 sport disciplines including Tenpin Bowling.
The quadrennial game is an official event of the Guam Bowling Congress under the eligibility rules of the Guam National Olympic Committee. The game’s opening ceremony is scheduled for September 15, 2017 while the closing ceremony will be held on September 24, 2017.
Team Guam representatives must be present throughout the duration of the games in the host country. The Team will be staying in the Games Village.
Eligibility
- A valid USA passport copy must be provided.
- A valid Guam Driver’s License, Guam Identification Card or Birth Certificate copy must be provided.
- Competitors born on Guam must have an accumulated five-year residency on island.
- Competitors not born on Guam must be living on Guam for five consecutive years as of September 1, 2012. A certified copy of tax clearance must be obtained from the Department of Revenue and Taxation.
- Competitors who are below the age of 18 who were not born on Guam must obtain five consecutive years of residency as of September 1, 2012 along with their parent’s copy of tax clearance from the Department of Revenue and Taxation.
- The following documents must also be provided Police and Court Clearance.
Fees
The fee for each week of bowling shall be $20.00. These fees shall be used to pay for lane lineage to the venue.
Expanded Roster
An expanded roster will be provided to the Guam National Olympic Committee before September 1, 2016 which will include names of bowlers competing in league play, National Team, Youth Team, Senior Team, former members of respective Guam National, Youth and Senior Teams who meet eligibility requirements. Interested individuals who meet the above eligibility requirements and are not currently bowling on island may submit their name and information to the Guam Bowling Congress for inclusion.
Qualifying Information
Bowlers with intention to compete in the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games must fill out a Guam Bowling Congress application form. This form will be used for our database and for future events, local and international. Bowlers must also be available from September 10 to 27, 2017, depending on flight availability to travel to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Qualifying dates will be held as follows:

The qualifying rounds will have a series of different lane patterns. Each qualifying event will be oiled with a different lane pattern including five (5) short oil patterns, five (5) medium oil patterns and five (5) long oil patterns. Each bowler must bowl a minimum of three (3) rounds on each lane pattern. If a bowler competes in less than three (3) rounds on any pattern, he/she will be removed from contention. Bowlers competing in more than three (3) rounds of each pattern will be able to use his/her top three (3) total scores of each lane pattern, i.e. short, medium and long. The top ten men and ten women, based on the format provided will be named to the National Team Pool. Average cut shall be 190 for the men’s division and 180 for the women’s division.
Provisions for Off-Island competitors
Bowlers with interest in being considered for the Guam National Team Pool must submit their intention no later than September 30, 2016. However, all eligibility rules must be met. Interested bowlers must present their scores to the Secretary-General of the Guam Bowling Congress on a weekly basis along with the pattern they had bowled on. If possible, the interested member should discuss with their respective bowling center to provide similar, if not the same, pattern to bowl on. With this, if possible, a video/on-line session will be required with the Secretary-General of the Guam Bowling Congress. A minimum average of 210 on house patterns for men and 190 for women must be met. Off-island competitors will be responsible for their round trip tickets to Guam.
Each member shall be responsible for paying all accounts in conjunction with the events. Fundraising events, in conjunction with the Guam National Olympic Committee, will be held to assist in defraying costs of participating in the Games.
Team Guam Information
Members of the Guam National Team Pool will be subjected to the following criteria:
- A daily/weekly training regimen will be implemented at the end of the qualifying program.
- Smoking and Drinking of Alcoholic Beverages will not be tolerated during all qualifying rounds, practices, training and tournament proceedings.
- In accordance with the International Olympic Committee doping control regulations, all qualified members must go through a WADA anti-doping test as required by the GNOC and GBC.
- All members of the Guam National Team Pool must provide a physical form by a certified physician from the period of June 15 to June 30, 2017.
- Another police clearance and court clearance must be provided with the filing period of June 15 to 30, 2017.
Guam Bowling Congress shall announce the representation for the named games based on the qualifying rounds and practice regimen. Guam Bowling Congress Board of Directors will announce their decisions for any existing vacancy(ies). Agreement forms between the bowlers partaking in this qualifying round and the eventual team members for the 2017 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games shall sign an abiding contract and code of ethics before the bowler bowls his/her first qualifying event which stipulates that the bowler has read and understands the requirements set forth by the Guam Bowling Congress and Guam National Olympic Committee.
Practice schedule for members of the 2017 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will be provided at a later date. Participants will be required to attend each scheduled practice sessions and fundraising activities provided by GBC to help defray the aforementioned tournament.
Force Majeure
This schedule is subject to change due to inhuman occurrences. The qualifying round and/or practice schedule will be cancelled in cases when tropical storm condition 2, typhoon condition 2 is declared or if any natural disaster occurs. When power outages occur, both scheduled and unscheduled, the tournament director shall reschedule the date(s) missed, provided no generator system is available at the venue.
