Sunday, October 2, 2016 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

Evan Duenas kept his stance against top seed Nikko Gutierrez during the monthly finals of the Guam Youth Bowler of the month competition held at the Central Lanes Bowling Center on Sunday, October 2, 2016. Gutierrez missed a couple of single pin conversions early in the game while Duenas kept his ball in play as he equaled Gutierrez’ output to preserve his 58 pin handicap advantage. With an insurmountable lead, Gutierrez was able to cut into the deficit by 28 pins, however a missed spare in the eighth frame along with Duenas’ strike in the ninth sealed the match and title for the eleven year old Duenas.
2nd seed Darien Borja got off to a clean start as he worked his way to cut into the handicap deficit against 4th seed Evan Duenas. However, midway through the game, Borja hit a couple of snags that Duenas capitalized on to keep the game in close range. In the end, Duenas’ 49 pin handicap advantage forced Borja to double in the final stanza. Borja capitalized on a Brooklyn strike but fell short on the pursuing ball as he conceded the match by nine pins.
The first elimination match pitted 11 year old classmates battling for the right to move up the stepladder. In the end, Duenas edged defending champion and 3rd seed Annastashia Leon Guerrero by two pins.
Gutierrez led all qualifiers in the 40 feet lane pattern four game qualifier with a 822 total including handicap. Borja inched out Leon Guerrero for the second slot by six pins while Duenas took the final spot for the step ladder with a 75 total. Jared Petrus finished in fifth followed by Jaymason Doyle, Cesar Villanueva, Xander Borja, James Doyle and Naiyah Taimanglo.
