Ricky Duenas and Cliff Palomo punched their tickets to the Grand Finale of the 2016 Budweiser King and Prince of the Lanes after nabbing their division’s respective monthly title. Both keglers earned their first title of the year with Duenas slipping past top seed Gregory Borja in the King finale 214-209 while Cliff Palomo secured his top seed spot with a 250-228 victory over 2nd seed Gerald Davis in the Prince finals.
The title was up for grabs throughout the match as a hotly contested finale went down to the wire. Duenas took an early lead jumping all over the first frame mishap of Borja. However, Borja came back with a four bagger to take a 30-pin lead after five frames as Duenas missed back to back single pin leaves. Duenas then put together a four bagger of his own to take a four-pin lead going into the final stanza. In the end, held on to claim the title by a five-pin margin. Borja eliminated 5th seed RJ Santos in the semi-final round 236-210 while Duenas discarded 2nd seed Ray San Nicolas 235-160 to set up the finals match.
In the Prince of the Lanes contest, Palomo’s victory secures his spot in the year end finals and joins the monthly champions along with defending champion Juan Blas for the coveted title. In the semi-final round Palomo used his 14-pin handicap advantage to edge out Amber San Nicolas by 3 pins while Davis ousted 8th seed Jesse Flickinger to set up the monthly finals.
The Budweiser King and Prince Grand Finals will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2016, 9:30 a.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
