In a rematch of January’s championship match, top seed Jim Pinaula held off third seed veteran champion Norison Catbagan’s late charge to take the Guam Senior Bowlers Federation March bowling championship. It was Pinaula’s second win this year.

The ladies fared better on the tournament oil pattern for March as six of them made the top ten shoot-out brackets, with Pinaula leading the twenty six competition pack with 1281 series and a 205 average.

In the even number bracket, sixth seed Remy Matanane narrowly got past eighth seed Patricia Roberto and tenth seed Mary Pangelinan 184 to 178 and 174 respectively with handicap. Meantime fifth seed Hilda Pelicani took victory in similar fashion over seventh seed Liz Langas and ninth seed Ben Taimanglo 181 to 177 and 161 with handicap on the odd number bracket.

Catbagan stopped Matanane’s title run 198 to 166 in the quarterfinal while Pelicani upset fourth seed veteran Zaldy Ponce 189-173 in the second bracket. The semifinals were not so close as Pinaula made his spot in the finals with a convincing 202-167 win over Pelicani while Catbagan secured his spot via a 191-175 victory over second seed Terry Roberto.

The championship was hard fought but in the end Pinaula pulled up the extra strikes he needed to hold his lead over Catbagan and finally return to the winner’s circle.

The next monthly senior tournament will be at 11:00 AM, Sunday, April 30th at Central Lanes. This tournament is open to all bowlers aged 50 or will be 50 by December 31, 2017. This is a handicapped event with a cash prize going to the top four finishers. For more information contact Central Lanes bowling counter.
