04 - April 2017 winners
L-R:  April 2017 Champion Terry Roberto and Runner Up Zaldy Ponce

Sunday, April 30, 2017 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

April saw Terry Roberto become the first Guam Senior Bowlers monthly titleholder as she swamped sixth seed Zaldy Ponce 218 to 169 with handicap on Sunday afternoon at Central Lanes.

A troublesome lane pattern made it possible for four ladies to make it to the shootout rounds with Mary Pangelinan holding down the top spot with an 1199 series with handicap follwed by Roberto. Ponce started his title quest with a narrow win over tenth seed Gomes Martinez and eighth seed Art Gatmen 198-197-178 respectively. On the odd number bracket, fifth seed Pat Roberto also took a close win over seventh seed Hilda Pellacani and ninth seed Buddy Saludo 170-168-162 respectively to advance to the quarterfinals.

Ponce continued with a big upset over third seed Rudy Palaganas 229-177 while Pat Roberto also pulled off a bigger upset over third seed Jim Pinaula 204-158. Pinaula was going after his third title this year.

Ponce then upset top seed Pangelinan in the semi-finals with a three pin win 204-201 with handicap. In the other semi-final battle between the Roberto women, Terry Roberto secured her spot in the finals with a narrow 204-192 score to set up the finals match.

Keeping the errant shots down to avoid open frames were the key to Roberto’s victory in the championship final as her sole open frame in the third kept Ponce at bay. She consistently made great shots and her strikes in the eight and ninth frames coupled with Ponce’s open frames in the sixth and seventh provided her the April crown and the cash prize to go along with it,

The next monthly senior tournament will be at 11AM, Sunday, May 28th at Central Lanes. This tournament is open to all bowlers aged 50 or will be 50 by December 31, 2017. This is a handicapped event with a cash prize going to the top four finishers. For more information contact Central Lanes bowling counter.
