Sunday, May 28, 2017 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam
Third seed Art Gatmen took advantage of some bad luck on top seed Rudy Palaganas’ part to take a narrow 167-165 victory plus handicap and become the May Senior Bowler of the Month Sunday afternoon at Central Lanes Bowling Center.
A rather difficult lane pattern resulted in lower scores and making spares became the rule of the day as Palaganas led the qualifying rounds with a 1268 series with handicap. In the even number bracket shootout round, sixth seed Manny Torres beat tenth seed Bal Perez and eighth seed Juan Tenorio 169-151-150 respectively. Seventh seed Buddy Saludo beat fifth seed Nestor Valencia and ninth seed Beltran Tosco 189-155-137 respectively in the odd number bracket to advance.
Fourth seed Alex Kloulubak dispatched Saludo in the quarterfinals 178-174. Gatmen took out Torre 187-153 to advance in the other quarterfinal. In the semi-final Palaganas stopped Kloulubak’s title run 174-122 while Gatmen took out second seed and April champion Terry Roberto 207-198 to go into the finals against Palaganas.
By then the lane pattern had broken down to cause strikes to become a rarity and open frames and splits the norm as both Gatmen and Palaganas struggling to get through the championship pair. In the end Gatmen got the better of the lane pattern to take the win and the cash prize for May title.
