Sunday, June 4, 2017 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam
The final match of the Triple J Enterprise Guam Youth Bowler of the Month turned into a sibling rivalry as Naiyah and Noah Taimanglo competed for gold. Top seed Naiyah converted her spares throughout the match that kept her within handicapping range of her older brother. With a 46 pin handicap advantage, her 180 scratch game was enough to land her first title of the year with a 237 total against her brother’s 205 scratch game, 216 with handicap. With the win, Naiyah joins her brother in qualifying for the year end finale as a monthly champion.
In the semi-final round, Noah Taimanglo was able to stave off a feisty defending champion Merygrace Hernandez after an opening split. Hernandez was unable to continue her momentum in the semi-final as she fell to the higher seed by eight pins.
4th seed Hernandez stroked her way to victory in the first match of the step ladder as she beat out 3rd seed James Doyle scratch 205-197. Doyle opened the match with a three bagger, but struggled mid game with spares as Hernandez began stringing strikes to close out the match on the ninth frame with her 45 pin handicap advantage.
In the qualifying round held earlier in the day, Naiyah Taimanglo topped all bowlers with a 879 total followed by her brother Noah Taimanglo, Mergygrace Hernandez, James Doyle, Annastashia Leon Guerrero, Eya Salandanan, Josiah Lanuza, Drewlene Ojeda and Trinity Nalundasan rounded off the top ten.
The next Triple J Enterprise Guam Youth Bowler of the Month will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
