Elliott, Doyle savor maiden 2017 King and Prince victories

Sunday, July 16, 2017 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

Aaron Elliott dethroned defending champion Jeremiah Camacho in the monthly finals of the Budweiser King of the Lanes by a 3-pin margin.  The finale looked like a possible repeat for the junior competitor as Elliott opened on his first frame.  However, Elliott found his strike line and nailed a turkey to recover from the miss.  Unfortunately for Camacho, his powerful shots were unable to kick out the stubborn pin seven and was only able to carry during the closing frame after Elliott’s consistency placed the game out of reach.

Elliott climbed from his 7th place ranking slamming the pocket time and time again.  Elliott discarded 6th seed Ricky Duenas 256-200 in the first round, then destroyed 5th seed Zachary Ford 247-160 before ousting top seed Jae Sang Lee 235-200 to earn his spot in the finals.  2nd seed Camacho sent 9th seed Jesse Eyoel packing 203-184 to earn his appearance in the finale.

Lee led all bowlers during the six games qualifying on the 44’ World Bowling London pattern with a 219 average as Camacho was nine pins adrift.  Dante Godoy finished in third followed by RJ Santos, Ford, Duenas, Elliott, Paul Thompson, Eyoel and Greg Borja.

James Doyle claimed his first Aloha Maid Prince of the Lanes title of the year knocking off Eya Salandanan in the finals.  Doyle took advantage of a nervous Salandanan in the early frames to erase the 41 pins handicap deficit and comfortably run away from the top seed.  Salandanan earned her spot in the finals beating out 5th seed Lisa Duenas in the semis while 2nd seed Doyle eliminated 9th seed Jesse Flickinger.

Salandanan led all qualifiers in the six games set held earlier in the day followed by Doyle, Mike Wong, Merygrace Hernandez, Duenas, Frank Manibusan Jr., James Perez, Annastashia Leon Guerrero, Flickinger and Arnold Javier rounded off the top ten who qualified for the elimination rounds.

The next Budweiser King and Aloha Maid Prince of the Lanes will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.
