Sunday, November 18, 2018 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam
Finally! The words that echoed from the winner of the Pin Point Guam King of the Lanes monthly winner. RJ Santos was in search for his first monthly title in more than three years. After opening the championship match with a five bagger, Santos was able to hold off a strong effort by 5th seed Nikko Gutierrez as a pin ten in the seventh frame coupled with a split in the third, provided the outlet for Santos’ 237-201 victory. Santos has been eyeing the top post for quite some time, pondering on what he needed to do to get over the hump. He resolved his issue by following suit with all others, purchasing and drilling up new equipment which put him back in the hunt for the Grand Finals.
Santos finished the qualifying rounds held earlier in the day in second place behind top seed Jeremiah Camacho. However, Camacho fell victim to early round leader, Gutierrez during the semi-final match. Camacho struggled in the opening frames which Gutierrez took full advantage of reeling a series of strikes to close the match 224-170. Santos, on the other hand, beat out 4th seed Aaron Elliott 247-216. Bowlers who finished in the top ten include Gregory Borja, Frank Manibusan Jr., Teliann San Nicolas, Mike Gadia, Charlie Catbagan and Ray San Nicolas.
In the Prince of the Lanes division, Naiyah Taimanglo claimed her third title of the year ousting Jesse Flickinger in the championship match via handicapping system. Flickinger edged Taimanglo by one pin in the scratch score, but Taimanglo’s 14 pin handicap advantage provided her the avenue to the crown.
Top seed Taimanglo swatted 6th seed Paul Perez’ opportunity in the semi-final round while 2nd seed Flickinger dropped 9th seed Eya Salandanan out of contention that qualified both bowlers for the final match.
Other top ten qualifiers include Kioni Aflague, Jordan Hattori, Romeo Evangelista, Joshua Munoz, Arnold Hernandez and Phillip Flores.
The Grand finals of the Pin Point Guam King and Prince of the Lanes will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center. The event will feature the defending champions from 2017 along with the monthly winners from 2018 and the bowlers who accumulated the most points during the year long program.
