Cruz, Ashland, DeRoca claim April youth titles

Saturday, May 6, 2023 – CENTRAL LANES BOWLING CENTER, Tamuning, Guam

Jaeani Cruz, Parker Ashland, and Kristian DeVera beat their respective challengers to claim the PinPoint Guam Youth Bowler of the Month of April at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.  The event features monthly tournaments featuring up-and-coming bowlers vying for the year-end bowler of the year title.  The scores are based on the bowler’s current average of which the goal is to beat the number of pins your opponent exceeds their average through a stepladder format.  The scores are derived from the GEDA Youth Bowling League hosted every Saturday at the Central Lanes Bowling Center.

In the girl’s division, 5th seed Aubreale Charfauros beat Janese Abasta during the first match.  In match 2, Charfauros fell to 3rd seed Paulina Yoon to advance to the semi-final round against 2nd seed Jaeani Cruz.  Cruz eliminated Yoon in match 3 and moved to the championship match against top seed Kamilah Leones where Cruz beat the top seed to claim her first title of the year.

The matches for the boy’s junior division witnessed a hot two-handed bowler 3rd seed Parker Ashland move through the step-ladder format beating out 4th seed Hunter Wood in match 1, then slipping past Tydus Baker in the semi-final round before claiming the title against Tanish Dewan in the finale to also claim his first title of the year.

Kristian DeRoca repeated as the boy’s senior division monthly champion by eliminating 4th seed Noah Tano in match 1, annihilating 2nd seed Sean Lee in match 2, and defeating top seed Evan Duenas in the monthly championship.

The top three bowlers from each division received the gold, silver, and bronze medals for their accomplishments.  The event is hosted on the last Saturday of each month and will continue throughout the year.
