The Guam National Olympic Committee (GNOC), through its National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) and the Medical and Anti-Doping Commission, successfully hosted a comprehensive Clean Sport and Nutrition Education Program for members of Guam Bowling on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Century Plaza.

The two‑hour session was facilitated by Joey Miranda III, GNOC/NADO Lead Doping Control Officer, and Lenora Matanane, Oceania Regional Anti-Doping Organization (ORADO) representative and certified Nutritionist and Dietician. Together, they delivered an integrated program designed to strengthen athlete awareness, reinforce fair play, and prepare Guam’s bowlers for upcoming international competitions.

Matanane and Miranda delivered the Clean Sport component, providing an in‑depth overview of key anti‑doping principles and requirements. Topics included:

  • The 11 Anti‑Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs)
  • Athlete Rights and Responsibilities under the World Anti-Doping Code
  • The WADA Prohibited List and common risk areas
  • Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs)
  • The ADAMS system and athlete data responsibilities
  • The full Doping Control Process, from notification to sample collection and documentation

Following the Clean Sport briefing, Matanane delivered a focused presentation on Nutrition and Hydration, emphasizing practical strategies for performance, recovery, and athlete well‑being. A key component of her session highlighted the critical differences between sports drinks and energy drinks, helping athletes make informed choices that support both health and compliance with anti‑doping rules.

The program equips athletes with the knowledge and tools necessary to make responsible decisions—on and off the field of play—while reinforcing Guam NOC/NADO’s commitment to protecting clean athletes and promoting a culture of integrity.

Participants included bowlers preparing to represent Guam at the World Youth Championships, World Championships, and various regional championship events, along with their Athlete Support Personnel.

The Guam NOC/NADO extends its appreciation to Guam Bowling for its continued partnership and dedication to fostering a clean, healthy, and values‑driven sporting environment for all athletes.
