18 September – Tamuning, Guam: The Asian Intercity Bowling Championship returned to Guam for the sixth time, marking its first appearance on island since 2013 and continuing a legacy that began with the inaugural event in 1987. Team officials convened at the Guam Plaza Resort Hotel for the official Team Managers’ Meeting ahead of the tournament’s opening.
Fourteen cities have converged in Tamuning to compete at Central Lanes from 18–26 September 2026. Participating cities include Hong Kong and New Territories, China; Parañaque and Pasay of the Philippines; Singapore; Subang Jaya of Malaysia; and Taichung and Taipei of Chinese Taipei.
Guam’s villages—Agana Heights, Dededo, Hagåtña, Tamuning, Tumon, and Yigo—are represented across multiple divisions. Only Tamuning, Dededo, Parañaque, and Pasay field full contingents consisting of four Men, four Women, four Senior Men, and four Senior Women. Other cities are represented by combinations of Men, Women, and Senior Men teams, with some entering only Men’s divisions.
This year’s championship features 48 Men, 24 Women, 28 Senior Men, 20 Senior Women, and 15 officials, totaling 135 participants. As customary, the meeting opened with welcome remarks from Mr. Johnson Cheng, President of the Asian Intercity Bowling Council (AIBC), who expressed appreciation for the cities’ continued support and acknowledged Tamuning for hosting the 38th edition of the championship—returning to the same city that launched the event nearly four decades ago.
Tournament officials presided at the head table as Mr. Joey Miranda III, Executive Director of AIBC and President of the IBF Oceania Zone, chaired the meeting. He conducted the roll call of participating cities and reviewed the championship schedule, including official practice sessions and the opening and closing ceremonies.
Miranda introduced the newly elected AIBC Exeuctive Board who will be serving the term of 2027 to 2030 which include President Johnson Cheng, 1st Vice President Michelle Wong, 2nd Vice President Mervyn Foo, Hon. Secretary-Treasurer Nena Yap, Executive Secretary Joey Miranda III and Executive Board Members Farid Khalid, Christina Chan, Wang Ya-Ting, Fu Kai-Jai, and Steven Koh.
Official practice is scheduled for 19 September, divided into two squads. The Official Opening Ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. at Central Lanes. The Jury of Appeal for the championship comprises Mr. Johnson Cheng (Chairman), Mr. Mervyn Foo of Singapore, and Ms. Michelle Wong of Subang Jaya.
Competition begins on 20 September with the Men’s and Senior Men’s Singles events, followed by the Women’s and Senior Women’s Singles on 21 September. Doubles events will be contested on 22–23 September, and the Team event will be held on 24–25 September.
The Top 16 Men, Top 16 Senior Men, Top 16 Women, and Top 8 Senior Women, based on All‑Events standings across the three disciplines, will advance to the best‑of‑three Elimination Round Masters Finals on 26 September, concluding the championship.
A Victory Banquet will be held at Capitol Kitchen Restaurant, where division champions and overall champions will be honored. The event will also feature the traditional flag handover ceremony, transferring hosting duties from Guam to next year’s host city, Taipei.
