Sunday, April 2, 2017 – Central Lanes Bowling Center, Tamuning, Guam
Annastashia Leon Guerrero used an early string of spares to pull out her first title of the 2017 Guam Youth Bowler of the month. 4th seed Leon Guerrero toppled top seed James Doyle in the final match with the help of her handicap advantage. A greek church and a pin ten miss, spelled the demise of the higher seed as he fell 8 pins short of the title.
Leon Guerrero held her ground against 2nd seed Noah Taimanglo in the Semi-final match converting on crucial spares. The inability of Taimanglo to strike on the odd numbered lane proved to be the difference in making up a 36-pin handicap advantage that sent Leon Guerrero to the monthly finals.
In the first step ladder match, Leon Guerrero and Evan Duenas had difficulties in the opening stanza which kept the match close. However, in the tenth frame, Leon Guerrero spared a pin two to advance to the medal rounds after 4th seed Duenas’ spare attempt at the 3-6-10 leave sailed right.
James Doyle led all bowlers during the four-game qualifier held earlier in the morning as he opened the tournament with a 279 game. Doyle finished 27 pins ahead of Taimanglo while Duenas took the third spot. Leon Guerrero edged out Jeremiah Camacho by two pins to qualify for the final step ladder position. Eya Salandanan, Darien Borja, Sebastian Loyola, Alexandria Loyola and Merygrace Hernandez rounded off the top ten.
The next Triple J Guam Youth Bowler of the month will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at the Central Lanes Bowling Center. This event is open to bowlers 22 years of age and below.
